Gary Welton- ARTIST EVENT January 19, 20, 21, 2012
Gary Welton was born in Brainerd, Minnesota. He has had major shows of his paintings featuring dance and movement in commercial and university galleries and museums including the Rajputana Palace in Jaipur, India, the Judith Ewing Morlan Contemporary Art Gallery in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, The Euro Gallery, MC Gallery, Luther College in Decorah, University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, and the Beverly Art Center and Museum in Chicago to name a few.
Mr. Welton’s work has been featured in numerous group shows including the Walter Wickiser Gallery in New York City, the Art Resource Gallery in St. Paul, Ylvisaker Fine Art Center in Mankato, Minnesota, the New Gallery in South Dakota and the Now Gallery in New York City. In addition, his work is in private and corporate collections including those at Dain Bosworth and Jamco International.
Mr. Welton is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. His work has been selected for inclusion in the “Art in Embassies Program” in Reykjavik, Iceland. His work and process - focusing on painting directly from life, using dancers in motion as his primary subjects - has been featured on KMSP Channel 9 “The Buzz”, an arts and entertainment section of the evening news in the Twin Cities. An exhibition of his large scale paintings on silk were featured on Bhaskar Television “Morning & Evening News” in Jaipur, India.
Mr. Welton received a BFA from the University of Minnesota under the study of Peter Busa, Malcom Meyers and Herman Somberg.
